Looking for something fun to do and beat the heat this summer in Las Vegas? Head to the city's newest water park, Wet N Wild for a fun day for the whole family!
This summer has been full of fun for my family! We've been hiking, camping and traveling since June. But in August I like to slow things down and stay near home as we get ready to adjust to a school year schedule. One place we've never been, that my kids were dying to try, is Wet N Wild, an outdoor water park in the southwest part of the valley. Lucky them, Wet N Wild provided us with 4 passes to try out the park for a day!
We headed down on a Monday because I figured it'd be less crowded on a weekday. We still made sure to be at the park the minute they opened. I was guessing that chairs in the shade would go fast and I wanted a prime spot. I grabbed some chairs on Splash Island right next to Kiddie Cove. If you have little kids, this is where you'll want to be! But for my elementary age kids, I wish I'd grabbed chairs along the Lazy River.
Our complimentary tickets included Xpress Bands. With an Xpress Band you can reserve your place in line without standing in line. Xpress Brands are an innovative wristband that allows guests to wait in line for slides virtually. Xpress Band users will select their desired ride from multiple self-service kiosks throughout the park and will be notified on their wristbands of the wait time and when it is time to return to the attraction. Guests will use a separate entrance and scan their band for validation. All guests who use the separate entrance must have an Xpress Band. Two types of Xpress Bands are available at the Park's Rental Counter located just inside the main gates. Because the park wasn't really crowded, we didn't use the bands much, but for older kids or a weekend, these would be a great buy.
I was prepared for a day of lounging in the shade, dipping in a pool, and reading a book. For some reason I forgot that this is an amusement park. There wasn't much sitting happening. Our favorite spot was the lazy river. Don't worry about renting a tube - there are plenty available for use in the river. The river did get crowded as the afternoon wore on, but that's why we went early.
There are several fun water slides at Wet N Wild, but my kids weren't really in to them. Most required hauling a raft of some sort up several flights of stairs and my kids are too small for that. So we spent most of the day in the river and the wave pool! We did have some issues with the lifeguards not being consistent with the rules in the wave pool. The rules are not posted and everyone seemed to have a different version of whether life vests were required or not. I would have appreciated an adult, rather than a teenager, be present.
My kids had a great time and are begging to go back again soon! I can definitely see the benefit of a season pass especially for older kids or moms who live near the park. Wet N Wild is a fun place to spend a day in the summer heat of Vegas.
